Getting Started with Typossum

A quick guide to installing and using Typossum for the first time.

What is Typossum

Typossum is an AI-powered writing assistant that corrects your spelling, grammar, and tone directly where you type — in your browser or on your Android keyboard. No copy-pasting into separate tools. Just write naturally and let Typossum clean things up.

Installing the Browser Extension

Typossum works as a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox. Install it from your browser's extension store:

Chrome: Chrome Web Store
Firefox: Firefox Add-ons

Once installed, you'll see the Typossum icon in your browser toolbar. The extension activates automatically on text fields across the web.

Your First Correction

Here's how to fix a piece of text with Typossum:

Click into any text field on any website
Type something with errors — for example: "i cant beleive how quikly this worsk"
Press Ctrl+Shift+Enter (or Cmd+Shift+Enter on Mac) to run Fix Spelling
Your text is corrected in place: "I can't believe how quickly this works"

That's it. The corrected text replaces your original, right in the same text field.

Try Improve Clarity

Fix Spelling handles errors. Improve Clarity goes further — it rewrites your text for better readability and word choice.

Select your text and press Ctrl+Shift+K (or Cmd+Shift+K on Mac) to improve clarity. For example:

Before: "The thing is that basically we need to make it so the app does the stuff faster"
After: "We need to make the app perform faster"

Message Tones

Want to adjust your tone? Typossum offers five message tones that rephrase your text to match the situation:

Professional — polished and business-appropriate
Confident — assertive and direct
Friendly — warm and approachable
Technical — precise and detailed
Inclusive — welcoming and considerate

Use the keyboard shortcuts to cycle through tones, or pick one from the extension popup.

Undo Anytime

Changed your mind? Press Ctrl+Z (or Cmd+Z on Mac) right after a correction to revert to your original text. Typossum never permanently alters your writing.
